DIY homemade cutting boards

If you are sick and tired of your plastic cutting boards, then this is the right Diy project for your kitchen items. The name of this project is DIY homemade Cutting boards. These wooden cutting boards are much more durable than those crummy plastic boards.

The only things you require for making these wooden homemade cutting boards is a big pile of wood and simply make it following our step-to-step guide. This project can even be used to make them in numbers so you can gift it to your friends and they are surely going to love them.

Following are the materials needed for making these homemade wooden cutting boards.

  • Hardwood planks that are untreated as you will be using these cutting boards for prepping food.
  • Jigsaw
  • Orbital sander
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Mineral oil
  • Rag

Step 1:-

The first step is to draw up a template in which you would like your wooden cutting board to be. Draw this template on a piece of paper and then cut it out with scissors.

Step 2:-

Place this template onto a piece of wood plank and then trace around it with the pencil. Be very sure that you align it on the board to avoid making any big knots.

Step 3:-

Start your jigsaw and start cutting around the wood for the cutting board shape. Be very careful that you are cutting the wood along the traced lines. While cutting on the curved lines, work really slowly to make these cuts just right and accurate.

Step 4:-

With an electric orbital sander, sand out all the edges as well as the top of the cutting board. First sand these surfaces with the medium 80-grit and then follow up on it with the extra fine 220-grit.

Step 5:-

Wipe the entire cutting board with a rag to remove any of the remaining sawdust. Then start conditioning the cutting board with the food-safe mineral oil for bringing out the wood’s natural beauty.

Mineral oil happens to be a digestive aid and is easily available for purchase at most of the pharmacies and drugstores.

Step 6:-

This is it; you are done with your DIY homemade cutting boards.  Now simply use them in your food preparations or pack them in nice little gift boxes and gift it to someone you know would appreciate them.
