Today we give you a little Diy project we like to call DIY Sprouting shelf. For this DIY sprouting shelf, we made use of the sprouting modern wire flowers that can be a great way of entertaining the kids. They can be placed in the kids’ rooms, hallway or even on the entryway if you wish to. The materials for completing this DIY sprouting shelf are quite literally inexpensive. But the great thing about the DIY sprouting shelf is that it will be a fun project to complete along with your kids.
The materials might be inexpensive but they are indeed a lot of them needed to complete the Diy sprouting shelf. The list of the materials needed for the DIY sprouting shelf is as follows.
- Baling wire; also known as Rebar wire can be bought from the hardware store. We recommend the thick baling wire because it is much stronger than the ordinary craft gauge wire but is still really bendable.
- Styrofoam balls; varying sizes
- Thick Styrofoam sheets of .5icnes thickness
- Little oval cookie cutter
- Acrylic paints
- Wood shelf
- Cupcake liners
- Drill with the tiny drill bit
- Hot glue
- Wire cutters
Use the wire cutter for pulling the long strand of the baling wire from its roll and then snip it in various lengths. We made a length between 4 to 16 inches. Straighten these cut wires loosely and wipe them with the paper towels and soapy water because this wire tends to be greasy.
Using the cookie cutter press in their shape on the Styrofoam sheets. After that, rub edges of these cutout Styrofoam shapes for ridding them from the flyaway pieces.
Paint the Styrofoam balls and the cutout shapes in the colors of your choice. Paper plates tend to be the great color pallets as well as drying spots for these balls.
As the painted Styrofoam is drying up, drill little holes in the shelf in a large cluster. These holes must go only halfway inside the wood instead of going all the way through.
Now is the step of assembly for pour DIY sprouting shelf and for this there are 2 ways. The first is to put the painted Styrofoam balls onto the stems of the baling wire and then glue these stems on the shelf in the drilled holes. The other is to first glue all of these stems in the holes and then put the Styrofoam balls and shapes onto them.
For placing the stem, dab some hot glue on an end of the baling wire stem and stick it gently in the drilled hole. After all the wires have been glued in the holes, use the hairdryer for melting away the glue threads from the holes to make it a cleaner insertion.
Stick the Styrofoam shapes and balls on these varying stem heights. Dab only a little bit of the glue on the wire and place these Styrofoam shapes and balls onto them.
Now hang this DIY sprouting shelf anywhere you like in the house.
