There is no need or cleaning your mattress with harsh chemicals or any other expensive concoctions. All that is required for this DIY mattress cleaning is 1 box of baking soda and some essential oils.
Supplies you will need for cleaning the mattress properly are as follows.
- Baking soda: a 16 ounces box
- Essential Oil
- Vacuum cleaner
Before starting the Diy mattress cleaning, you need to either rotate or flip the bed which is a great thing to do every six months to prevent the sagging the mattress and extending its overall life. While you work to clean the mattress, throw its bedding in the washer.
Open your box of baking soda and add in it at least 10 or a maximum of 20 drops of any essential oil you like. Close this box and start giving it a good shake for distributing the essential oil to the entire baking soda and breaking up any large clumps of it. Some of the essential oils you can choose from, which have a great fragrance, include sandalwood, chamomile, and lavender. All of these essential oils have natural antibacterial properties.
Sprinkle this essential oil mixed baking soda on the entire mattress and start massaging your mattress. Rub this baking soda on the bed evenly which will give a deep cleaning to your mattress. Now let this baking soda sit for about 1 hour and the essential oil mixed baking soda will do its work.
While you wait for 1 hour, do a little cleaning around the walls of the bed and bed frame as well. After one hour passes, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the baking soda off of the mattress. Make sure that all of it is vacuumed properly.
Not only will this freshen up your mattress but it will also help to lift off any residue or dirt along with the moisture. Vacuuming the mattress will also remove any lingering dust mites that will also add to better sleeping time.
